Revd Peter Edwards
—
Honorary Associate Minister
Revd. Peter Edwards is an Honorary Associate Minister at Methodist Central Hall Westminster where he served from 2012-19 as Co-ordinator of Healing Ministry. In retirement he lives in Sheffield with his wife Rita.
Peter served in four other circuits as a presbyter and superintendent in the Methodist Church before coming to head up healing ministry at MCHW in 2012. Following a clear call of God given to Rita at the turn of the millennium to start a healing ministry, Peter shared with Rita over the next decade in developing healing ministries in the churches and circuits in which they served. This quickly led to requests from churches across the north of England for training and advice about setting up healing ministries and also to their leading The Healing Touch at Easter People for six years. In 2011 Peter published a book, The Healing Touch of God, relating the journey on which God had taken him and Rita and also arguing for a greater acceptance of healing ministry within the wider Methodist Church. During his appointment at MCHW Peter produced an online course Healing Ministry Explored to enable groups and churches to discover how to set up local healing ministries. He also contributed regularly to Premier Christian Radio’s weekly programme God’s Healing Love.
In retirement Peter has continued his preaching ministry in Sheffield and beyond and, before the pandemic arrived, had been hoping to be more involved in preaching and sharing in worship at MCHW. Over recent months God has led Peter to engage more deeply in the prayer ministries of intercession and prophecy and to support Alison Bryan, Peter’s successor, in her exploration of prophetic prayer ministry for physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Peter and Rita use the freedom afforded by retirement to enjoy their garden and the countryside around them, particularly in the Peak District, and to spend time with family and share in the lives of grandchildren. And Peter is now able to watch a bit more cricket and follow the fortunes of Sheffield United F.C.
